Age Criteria

Minimum and maximum age requirements for admission — Regulation 6(a)

General: 17–25 years SC / ST / OBC: Up to 30 years

General Category

Candidates must be a minimum of 17 years and not exceed 25 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the 1st year of B.V.Sc. & A.H. course.

SC / ST / OBC Candidates

A relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit is provided. The maximum permissible age is therefore 30 years for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or Other Backward Classes.

Qualifying Examination

Required subjects and educational background — Regulation 6(b)

Physics Chemistry Biology / Biotechnology English (Core Course)
Standard Qualifying Examination

Candidates must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent Intermediate Science examination) from a recognized Indian University or Board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English as a core course, including a practical test in each science subject.

Students Educated Abroad

Candidates educated outside India must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English up to the 12th Standard level with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of these subjects.

Merit-Based Selection

Admission to B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree courses in government or private colleges shall only be on the basis of merit through a competitive entrance examination conducted by the University, State Government, or Veterinary Council of India. Reservation policy shall be as per Government of India norms for VCI seats and as per respective State policy for State seats.

15% All-India VCI Quota

15% of the total seats in each recognized veterinary college (listed in the First Schedule of the Act) shall be reserved for all-India candidates, filled through the Common Entrance Examination. Within this quota, seats for SC, ST, Physically Handicapped, and OBC candidates shall be reserved as per Government of India policy.

Admission Deadlines

Candidates selected through the all-India quota must report to the allotted institution by 15th September of that year. Vacant seats may be filled by the college or university by 30th September, which is the final cut-off date — no admission shall be made thereafter.

Special Category Candidates

Provisions for bilateral exchange, sponsored, and SC/ST candidates — Regulation 7(4), 7(6) & 7(7)

  • SC/ST Unfilled Seats: If reserved seats for SC/ST candidates in any State cannot be filled due to insufficient eligible candidates from that State, such vacancies shall be filled on an all-India basis with SC/ST students obtaining not less than the prescribed minimum pass percentage (47.5%).
  • Sponsored Candidates: Sponsored candidates must qualify the same admission procedure as General Category candidates and are not given any relaxation in selection criteria.
  • Bilateral Exchange Programme: Admission of candidates under bilateral exchange programmes shall be regulated by the Veterinary Council of India or on the recommendation of the Government of India.
  • Post-Admission Reporting: After final admissions, each veterinary college shall submit the list of students admitted in the 1st Professional of B.V.Sc. & A.H. programme, and similarly the list of passing-out students, to the Veterinary Council of India.

Disability Criteria

Conditions that may restrict admission — Regulation 7(10) & 7(11)

Candidates with the following disabilities shall not be permitted admission to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree course, including those admitted under the 15% VCI reserved quota, as these conditions may interfere with the performance of veterinary duties:

🦴Total body disability or chest/spine disability exceeding 50%
🦵Lower limb disability exceeding 50%
💪Upper limb disability (any degree)
👁️Visual impairment or hearing disability
🧬Progressive diseases such as myopathies
🩺Any disability interfering with the duties of a veterinarian
📋 Disability Certification Disability shall be certified by a Government-authorized Medical Board of at least three specialists (two from the specialty concerned). The candidate must appear in person before the Board. The disability certificate must not be more than 3 months old at the time of submission.
